Statement from Magenta re: Sheffield Cancellation

Sadly another show has bit the dust 😪, as The Citadel has closed down costing them that gig – we have been notified that Magenta have decided to cancel the Sheffield show.

To be honest their reason is very viable – planning a tour is incredibly difficult and the finances are very tight. Advance ticket sales at Sheffield weren’t what they used to be pre-covid and the band obviously don’t want to risk it.

This statement from Rob.

Having been informed that The Citadel show had been cancelled, we’ve had no option but to cancel the following nights show in Sheffield. Organising and funding even a modest run of shows has become problematic logistical, especially when the shows comprise of two complete bands. Every gig is reliant on the next and it’s now finically unviable to do the second show in Sheffield with The Citadel one cancelled.

We are, however, fully committed to the remainder of shows and are busy planning the set lists, and looking forward to playing with Peter Jones and his Tiger Moth Tales band.

Apologies to any inconvenience caused by the cancelled shows, and we encourage everybody who is planning to go the shows to buy tickets well in advance to keep the promotors and venues confident.

All tickets will be refunded via your point of sale.

Hopefully we can bring Magenta back up to Sheffield next year.

  1. Hi Kris

This is a real shame, we had been looking so forward to this as Magenta due very few shows, especially in Yorkshire. As we also big Pete Jones fans this was going to be a great night! This is becoming a vicious circle as some venues do not give refunds when the show has been cancelled by the band so people are increasingly reluctant to book in advance. Add to that travel & hotel costs, which again are not always refunded, and the general tough times and it is a very worrying time for live music. It is a shame Magenta could not carry on with the Sheffield gig, which is where we were going, as I’m sure most of the people who had tickets for St Helens would have gone to Sheffield making it a more profitable arrangement. I have not been contacted by the venue yet despite me emailing them as soon as I heard the news, so not hopeful about seeing the ticket money again. This is the third gig we have had cancelled recently, HRProg at Leeds & Joe Payne at The Robin, being the others and have not had a refund on any of them.

We were members of the CRS and went to many gigs at Maltby & Wath. Happy days….

    Kind regards Jayne
